CEMIP (Comité d'Ethique et de Médiation de l'Industrie Pharmaceutique)

The CEMIP is the French Committee of Ethics and Mediation for the Pharmaceutical Industry. It was set up in 2000 by the Leem (the Professional Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry in France) who, as major players in Public Health, see it as their duty to promote professional ethics not only among their members but also with their partners.

Drug companies must not only abide by national regulations that are already in place, in particular those pertaining to the interface with the medical community, but also comply with the codes of good practice drawn up by the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry and Associations (EFPIA) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA) as well as those defined by the profession at a national level.

These provisions allow for an association’s members to set up a self-regulating body designed to act as a watchdog of professional practices as well as handling complaints brought by the industry or by third parties.
